“Balancing rocks is much more than just balancing rocks!”—一篇Jamie Hlady專訪
下文是轉載自「The Source,May 25, 2010的報導—Forget rocks—he brings balance to community,作者是Kelly Scarsbrook。
You’ve probably seen them at White Rock Beach and wondered how they got there. Or maybe you witnessed the crowds who gathered to watch the young, fair haired man achieve the impossible with ordinary rocks.
They are the astounding rock formations that balance on the top of one another, creating beautiful art against the backdrop of the ocean.
Jamie Hlady has always been an artist at heart. It’s hard to explain how he stumbled into the awe-inspiring rock formations he has been doing for the crowds at White Rock Beach for past six years, but it’s something he believes he was destined to do.
“I love the community of White Rock and I love to serve the people,” Hlady said. “I enjoy attracting crowds and putting smiles on their faces as they go for their evening ice cream. Nothing makes me happier than seeing peoples’ face light up.”
He said balancing rocks is much more than just balancing rocks.
I like to think of it as bringing balance to the community,” Hlady said. “Because of my rock balancing, I have met so many different kinds of people. I have also come to understand that lots of people are on sad walks in life, so I just hope to inspire them that anything is possible. These rocks look impossible to balance but it can be done.
I his day job, Hlady works for Atmosphere in Langley – but his unique art form have lately attracted many customers. In addition to displays of his rock formations at White Rock Beach, Hlady also sells photographs of his artwork and makes permanent sculptures of them for people’s homes or gardens.
Haldy is reluctant to assign any special meaning to the rocks that defy gravity, as he wants people to see things in their own way when they look at them.

Rock balancing is an art, discipline, and / or hobby depending upon the intent of the practitioner.
Rock balancing—as well as the approaches above—can also be a performance art, a spectacle, or a devotion, depending upon the interpretation by its audience.
Essentially, it involves placing some combination of rock or stone in arrangements which require patience and sensitivity to generate, and which appear to be physically impossible while actually being only highly improbable.
The rock balancer may work for free or for pay, as an individual or in a group, and their intents and the audiences' interpretations may vary given the situation or the venue.
There are three types of rock balancing:
1. Pure Balance - each rock in near-point balance
2. Balanced Stacking - rocks lain flat upon each other to great height
3.Free Style - mixture of the two above, may include arches, etc.
